This isn’t helpful as none of those things have changed. I’m using the same internet, router, audio interface, and computer as when the latency was acceptable. What could cause the latency to change when all of those things have remained consistent?

Thanks for your reply and our separate communications. I’m so glad that latency (at least, in a test between us) is great now. (The student should take a look at the latency tips in the troubleshooting guide at https://farplay.io/faq to check their setup too).
You’re using a PreSonus AudioBox 1818VSL on a Windows 10 PC. For anyone wanting to get the best latency with the same equipment, use these steps (adapted so they can be done without connecting to anyone).
- Open a FarPlay session with just yourself.
- Go to FarPlay’s Preferences and make sure the Microphone: and Headphones: are both set to AudioBox USB ASIO.
- Click the ASIO Buffer Settings button. In the Universal Control window that opens, use the Block size pull-down menu* to select a small size (try 32 to begin with).
- In FarPlay, look under You (…) and bring the Monitor slider to 0 dB. Talk into your mic and listen to your voice in your headphones. Under Remote Sound, look at your Local Latency. In Universal Control, try block sizes of 16 and 64. When you find a block size that gives you the lowest local latency while still letting you hear your voice clearly (without crackles), keep that block size.

* ⚠ Warning: Instead of a Block size pull-down menu, you might see a green button for updating firmware. Updating the firmware for the AudioBox 1818VSL can make the AudioBox unable to connect to your computer (USB Sync LED light turns red, rather than blue). If this happens, or, to avoid this, do the following:
- Uninstall Universal Control.
- Go to the AudioBox 1818VSL Download page, click “Show / Hide all versions of software downloads for …”, and then download and install Universal Control v3.2.0.56558 (on some operating systems, this version isn’t available; in that case, try the oldest available version).
- Open Universal Control. If the update firmware button appears, click it. The pull-down menu for Block Size should now be available.
