I am a research assistant at the VA, and we are looking at different meeting softwares (JackTrip, FarPlay, Jamulus) to see which might be the most user friendly and easiest to use for participants with mild cognitive impairement. Our study is going to involve these participants being enrolled in an organized singing program, where they will be meeting remotely with a singing therapist. We think that group singing might help their symptoms of cognitive impairement, increase their quality of life, and might ‘unlock’ their past selves.

We have limited funding on our grant, and I was wondering if it would be possible to use FarPlay for free, or perhaps at a discounted price? This study will probably be going on for a couple years, with a variety of different groups joining throughout.

Hi There, This sounds like an exciting project! We think you’ll find that FarPlay is unsurpassed in ease of use for singing together online.

FarPlay has a free mode that you can use for 1:1 sessions limited to 45 minutes each (you can start a new session right after one ends). This is useful for testing (but free mode isn’t just a “trial”; free mode never expires).

If you’d like to have sessions with 3 or more musicians and no time limits, all that’s needed is for the user creating the session to have a subscription. Guests joining the session can stay for the full length of the session without being subscribers. This is not always the case with meeting software and is one of the features that makes FarPlay very affordable. Our Standard subscription is $5.99/mo.
