I’m a teacher interested in migrating my students to FarPlay, but I feel uncomfortable asking students to buy equipment just for FarPlay.

Meeting for lessons over FarPlay typically provides huge time and cost savings compared with meeting for lessons in person, and a great improvement in both audio quality and latency over conventional communication solutions.
A student with a MacBook is likely to enjoy making music in rhythmic sync online with no more than an Ethernet adapter, an Ethernet cable (perfectly fine to use even a 300-foot cable), and a wired headset. Together, these items cost around $50 or less—very little compared to the costs of gas and wear and tear on cars that quickly add up with regular lessons. Meeting from home avoids spending time driving.
Using the basic equipment above on Windows might not provide quite as low a latency, but it should still be possible for users who are in nearby cities, for example, to play songs together if the tempos aren’t too fast.
Both on Mac and Windows, the experience will be so much better than what it’s like to have a music lesson using conventional video conferencing applications.
