Is 10,000 miles too far?

I’m teaching jazz to a couple of teens who live in Lusaka, Zambia; I’m in the SF Bay Area; the distance is 10,000 miles. I’d love to be able to play piano backing to their clarinet and saxophone. My impression is that’s a bit too far for Fairplay to work. I wanted to verify that impression before I ask their mother to buy them wired headphones or the ethernet adapter to their macs. Right now we’re using Zoom which works ok if we’re not trying to make music together. Thanks.
Also my wife wanted to let Dan know that her brother, Steve Johnson, was Captain Hook to his mom’s Peter Pan in the musical in high school in Eugene, OR.

Thanks for your question. The delay between Lusaka and the San Francisco Bay Area will be too high for playing rhythmic music together in sync. You could still musically interact in styles that don’t need rhythmic sync (for an example of live improvisation over 6800 miles, check out this video).
Even at 10,000 miles, FarPlay still offers advantages compared to a typical Zoom call: you get super clear audio, and you can talk over each other naturally (no need to yell to interrupt someone). It’s quite a treat!
