Latency reduction ideas for recording question!

  • Hi Curt,

In a DAW, you can improve sync for audio you recorded for a particularly distant player. The screenshots below are from Garage Band, but the steps look similar in other DAWs, like Logic Pro.

Import the separate stems of your multitrack recording into your DAW. Place the playhead to the left of the musical performance.

In this example, the track labeled “Audio 2” belongs to the especially distant player. Select Audio 2. Split this track at the playhead (in Garage Band, Control-Click on the track, then choose “Split at Playhead”).

Click to select the portion of Audio 2’s track to the left of the playhead. Delete this portion.

Drag the remaining portion of Audio 2’s track a small amount to the left. Play the recordings to check whether the tracks are in sync. If not, drag the track for Audio 2 again.

    Thank you,
    David Liao

    Thanks for responding back, David

I do that already with regarding cutting off slices of the front and moving the entire track backwards.
The problem with this when the remote players Internet path experiences higher than average Jitter inconsistencies impact random times in the remote players track from my recording so that’s why I was thinking Mitchell‘s file might require a little less work since I already adjust tracks for overall latency after I import them to Logic.

    Dear Curt,

Thank you for your reply. First, could Mitchell take a look at the tips for reducing latency in our troubleshooting guide? Tips for minimizing latency often reduce jitter too.

    Thank you,
