or alternatively an old laptop, how low can you go on cpu and memory?
Dear R,
Thanks for your question. FarPlay doesn’t need a lot of RAM. 4 GB should be comfortably enough.
The minimum CPU depends on the size of the session. My friend connects with me fine 1:1 with video and onboard audio using his mid-2012 MacBook Air laptop (1.7 GHz Dual-Core i5 CPU). However, his laptop is too slow for sessions with 4 participants with video, for which I’d instead suggest a quad-core i7 CPU like the one in this late-2013 MacBook Pro. It might be possible to participate in group sessions using a slower processor. I’ll check with a team member and let you know.
For Linux, use an x86-64 processor (FarPlay doesn’t support the ARM processors in Raspberry Pis). We support Debian, Ubuntu, or Fedora. If your computer meets the recommendations for your Linux distribution, that should be enough for FarPlay.
Happy New Year,
David Liao

David Liao. Reason: Corrected number of participants that's too much for the late-2012 MacBook Air
