Moved and now latency is higher

  • Dear Mega Mango,

Thanks for your message. Can you let us know whether the suggestions below help? Happy to provide additional suggestions accordingly.

    • Please ask the band members in San Diego and NYC to use fiber internet, if they’re not already using fiber. With fiber, I’d expect latencies between California and New York of around 40 ms, rather than roughly 50-60 ms, which I might expect with cable.
    • If any band member uses a Windows PC, make sure they use an audio interface with manufacturer-supplied ASIO drivers (like a Focusrite Scarlett). Have them select the audio interface’s ASIO drivers in FarPlay and set the interface’s ASIO buffer size to 16, 32, or 64 samples (try each to see which gives the best latency). See the steps in this video.

The best latency possible between San Diego and New York (around 40 ms) is noticeably higher than the best latency possible between Austin and Philadelphia (around 30 ms). Internet signals take more time to travel longer distances.

    Thank you,
    David Liao
