Recording sessions & Hearing each other

  • Dear Clare,

    Thanks for your question.

    1. Yes, FarPlay’s built-in recording feature lets you record the video of all the participants in a session, like in the example below. Recording is available to subscribers and also to everyone in sessions created by FarPlay For Teachers subscribers. For steps, see our recording instructions.
    2. The musicians in the example above heard each other and played in harmony with each other. And, yes, you can likewise hear each other clearly and harmonize together while singing.

Use FarPlay’s Free Mode to create as many 1:1 sessions, of up to 45 minutes each, as you like — great for initial testing. To try a group session (more than 2 total people), have a member of your group use a subscription to create a session. The other members can join the session without subscribing. The Standard and Standard+ subscriptions each come with a trial month so you can test for free. Compare plans here.

Check out our tech requirements, which have some differences from Zoom’s. For example, we don’t do echo cancellation (would add latency). So, have each musician use wired headphones. Another difference is that FarPlay only uses peer-to-peer connectivity (to get the lowest latency), which means that each participant needs more download and upload speed as the number of participants increases. With fast connections, FarPlay is great for groups of up to around 8 participants (we know of a group in which 10+ musicians sometimes meet). We recommend fiber or cable connections with at least 50 Mbit/s of upload speed (20 Mbit/s of upload speed can work well in smaller groups).

We recommend that each musician set up FarPlay using the “Step Zero” and “Step One” sections of our QuickStart guide before first connecting to someone else.

    Thank you,
    David Liao
