Fix crashing of FarPlay 1.3.1 on Windows

  • [Edit: Problem solved! See forum post here].

    Hi RKmusic,

Thanks for letting us know! Could you share what computer you’re using (example: PC running Windows 11)? You can typically install a new version of FarPlay on top of an old version without problems, but if there’s a problem, you can try uninstalling the old version before installing the new version.

    Thank you,
    David Liao

    Hi David!

    Glad to share my system:

    Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9880H CPU @ 2.30GHz – 64,0 GB RAM
    Windows 10 Pro – 64 bits
    Versión 22H2
Audio: Behringer X Air 18 ASIO drivers and last firmware.

What I did after new version 3.1.3 was uninstall FarPlay and newly install Farplay new version after reinitialize system. Same thing, when I open Farplay it stay less than 1 second and disappear (crash).
So what I did is newly uninstall and reinstall previous version, all is now ok!

    Dear RKmusic,

Many thanks for your system details. Happy you have a solution. I will bring your information to the team.

    Thank you,
    David Liao

Yes, in the meantime I will use the previous version.
No idea of why version 3.1.3 crash after complete uninstall, used Wise Registry Cleaner and fresh new install process?
I will learn more parameters like preferences state…

Thanks to anyone that could share some ideas!!
    Richard

    Hi Richard,

You can try to install FarPlay 1.3.1 for Windows by downloading it as a .zip file. Extract the .zip file and run farplay.exe in the extracted folder.

When FarPlay 1.3.1 crashes, are you on the welcome screen (with the “New Session” and “Join Session” buttons) or are you already in a session (like after clicking an invitation link)? If the crash happens in a session, click the FarPlay icon in the Start menu (or double-click farplay.exe) to get to FarPlay’s welcome screen. Before joining a session, click Preferences. In the General Options screen, make sure the Microphone and Headphones are both set to your Behringer X Air 18 (be sure to pick the listing in the “ASIO devices” section). Click ASIO Buffer Settings and choose a safe buffer size of 64 (you can try lower buffer sizes of 32 and 16 later). Press OK. Start a session and see whether these steps fix the problem. See the screenshots in section 3 of the version of our QuickStart guide customized for Windows users using audio interfaces with ASIO drivers.

    Thank you,
    David Liao

    Hi David!

After installing v. 1.3.1 if i open FarPlay I can see the main screen like in previous version.
If activate button “New Session” I still can see the Session code number screen, but if I clic to “Enter Session” the screen disappear (crash)

I did your recomendation also, but at the end of parameters choice, when I clic OK all disappear.

So I have to work with the previous stable version.

    Thanks,
    Richard

Today I did a new approach.
    I uninstall 3 asio driver:
    – Magix low Latency 2016
    – Steinberg buil-in Asio driver
    – UA VOLT 1 Asio Driver

So my unique Asio driver Is the appropiate to Behringer X Air 18.

No way, after uninstall thes drivers I cleaned the registry and FarPlay 1.3.1 still is crashing.
But, for now I am using previous version and it work like a charm!

Waiting to use better version, of course… Patience!!

    Best,
    Richard

    Dear Richard,

Thank you for your updates. Very helpful!

Just to check, is the version of the X18’s drivers for Windows 10/11 you’re using 5.72.0?

Could you try the following? Open FarPlay 1.3.1 and, before joining a session, go to Preferences > General Options and set the microphone and headphones both to “No Audio“. Then, check whether FarPlay 1.3.1 still crashes after creating and entering a new session. (You won’t be able to play music with someone with these settings; just wanted to do a test).

    Thank you,
    David Liao

    Dear Richard,

P.S. Could you share which previous version of FarPlay you’re currently using? 1.3.0? An older version?

    Thank you,
    David Liao

    Hi David!

I already did this test… it crash also with No Audio in Microphone and Headphones.

    Richard

… and ye, I am using 5.72.0 X Air 18 ASIO Driver and the previuos version of FarPlay is farplay-1.3.0-1388. It is the unique version that I was usinf befor to switch to 1.3.1.

    Best,
    Richard

    Hi David!

One thing I did’nt try is to run directly from a folder where I extract the Prg ZIP file.
I just do it… same behaviour —> Crash!

    ;-(
    Richard

    Dear Richard,

Thank you for the updates — very helpful!

    • Before opening FarPlay 1.3.1, try temporarily turning real-time scanning/protection off in 3rd-party security software (Norton, Malwarebytes, etc.).
    • If that doesn’t help, could you see whether installing this other version of FarPlay 1.3.1 for Windows fixes the crashing?

    Thank you,
    David Liao

    Hi David,
I only use the Windows 10 included Security software.
I tried to install the older 1.3.1 version you sent to me.
    Setup failed (see attachment).
I have access to yhe involved LOG file, do you want to check it?

    Best,
    Richard

    Dear Richard,

Thanks for testing. I will reply separately by email to request the log file. Thank you for offering it.

    Thank you,
    David Liao
