Sound transmission problem

  • Hi Rich,

Yes, we can troubleshoot in October. In the meantime, could Robert try the following steps? Based on your separate communication (thanks) indicating that the level meter in FarPlay responded to your sound, there is a problem on Robert’s end. I don’t think the problem is your 2017 MacBook.

    1. Quit all audio applications, including FarPlay. Speak/play. Can you hear yourself? If so, turn direct monitoring off on your audio interface. To do so, press a button/switch for direct monitor or turn the “mix” knob all the way toward “playback” (all the way away from “input”). Now, you should not hear yourself in your headphones.
    2. Open FarPlay. Click New Session to start a session (can be just by yourself, without connecting to anyone else). In the You (Robert) subpanel, drag the Monitor slider toward the right, to 0 dB. Speak/play. Can you hear yourself now?

If not, make sure the headset you’re wearing (or the audio interface your headphones are plugged into) is selected in the Devices subpanel. Check volume buttons/knobs (on your computer keyboard, headphones, or audio interface — but keep the “mix” knob, if your audio interface has one, set to “playback”).

Once you can hear yourself through your headphones, drag your Monitor slider back to wherever you prefer.
    3. Look in the Remote Sound subpanel (if you’re connected to Rich, this subpanel will be labeled with Rich’s name). Drag the Monitor slider in this subpanel toward the right. When this slider is dragged all the way to the left (“muted”), you won’t hear Rich.

Our QuickStart guide walks you through volume adjustments — great to use when using a setup for the first time or troubleshooting.

    Thank you,
    David Liao
