using digital mixers into farplay

  • Dear Robert,

    Thanks for your questions. Please have the drummer try the following:

    • In the CQ MixPad app, tap CONFIG and then tap the cluster of USB, SDHC, and Bluetooth icons in the screenshot below, adapted from Allen & Heath’s CQ User Guide.

      Tap USB/SD. Check that the Sample Rate is 48 kHz. Set Stream Mode to Multitrack.
    • In FarPlay, set Devices > Microphone to Input Mixer.

      In FarPlay’s Input Mixer, use the circled plus to create as many tracks as you need for the mic/line inputs you want to use on your CQ-20B. For details, see our mixer page. You should no longer be sending an echo of the rest of the band back to them in FarPlay.
    • If you can’t hear audio from FarPlay, follow the steps in Allen & Heath’s video on multichannel playback. When the tutorial tells you (1 min 15 sec) to use your DAW to route audio to different channels on your CQ, pretend your DAW is FarPlay: go to FarPlay’s Preferences > General Options, look at the Headphones row, and choose the desired output channels from the channels pull-down menu.
    • If the above instructions don’t work, follow the steps in Angry Sound Tech’s YouTube video (you can skip the section about signal processing that runs from 5 min 24 sec to 6 min 52 sec).

    For musicians who find this thread when trying to get rid of echo from other USB mixers, we recommend looking at the solutions on our blog. If steps for a mixer aren’t listed on our blog or here, search for the mixer’s model number and “mix minus” or “turn loopback off”.

    Thank you,
    David Liao
