Dear Forrest,
Thanks for your question. Attendees who aren’t trying to play in rhythmic sync with anyone (just listening to a masterclass, talking, or taking turns playing one at a time) don’t need to connect with Ethernet; they can just use Wi-Fi.
However, have everyone who wants to play together in rhythmic sync (whether they be a host or attendee) use an Ethernet cable to connect their computer to the router that receives the internet signal where it first comes into the home and have them turn their computer’s Wi-Fi off.
We encourage hosts/teachers to customize this template message, which provides attendees with shopping links for Ethernet cables and adapters.
Sometimes playing together in rhythmic sync is possible without Ethernet, but alternatives tend to be more unreliable, complicated, or expensive. For details, see our blog post.
Thank you,
David Liao
