Can I use FarPlay to connect 2 musicians 2000 miles apart?

  • Dear Louis,

Thanks for your question. At 2000 miles, you can jam together at modest and slow tempos, but not with fast music like the math metal in this example from three locations in Brooklyn. To minimize latency, use fiber internet. Use cable internet if fiber is unavailable. For more recommendations for your internet connections, see our requirements.

Here are some examples of playing together more than 2000 miles apart:

    • Oteil Burbridge played bass guitar from California with a drummer in New York, a 2900-mile drive away, in this music-lesson excerpt.
    • Our own Dan Tepfer in Brooklyn and Thomas Enhco in Paris, France improvised rhythmically together on piano in this live broadcast performance, 3600 miles apart.
    • Mezzo-soprano Valerie Eickhoff and pianist Elenora Pertz rehearsed together from New York and Dresden, Germany in this excerpt, 4000 miles apart.

    Thank you,
    David Liao
