Reply To: What should be the best possible latency 5654 miles (from Slovenia to Texas)
Dear Urban,
With good internet connections, I’d expect roughly 80 ms of latency between Texas and Slovenia.
- Make sure each musician uses Ethernet to connect their computer to the router that receives the internet signal where it first enters the home. Avoid wireless repeater/extender routers and Ethernet-over-power adapters.
- Be sure to turn Wi-Fi off and VPN off, if used.
- Use a landline (fiber, cable, or vDSL) internet connection at each end, rather than cellular internet.
- Drag the latency slider as far to the left as you can while still hearing an acceptable amount of crackling (see 1-minute video explainer).
- If someone uses Windows, have them try to reduce latency by using an audio device with manufacturer-supplied ASIO drivers (like the iRig Stream Mic USB). Ask them to follow the steps in section 3 of our QuickStart guide (they should use the version customized for Windows PCs with external audio interfaces here).
Our troubleshooting guide provides additional suggestions for reducing latency.
Thank you,
David Liao
