Carrier-grade NAT (CGN)

  • Dear Johan,

Yes, there are solutions for CGNAT! Try this first:

    • Ask your internet provider to help you make sure your router and computer are configured to use IPv6. Ask musicians you’d like to connect with to do the same. Good news: FarPlay can connect using IPv6, and IPv6 functionality might already be included for free with your internet service.

If IPv6 isn’t available for you or a musician you’d like to connect with, try the suggestions below.

    • Ask your internet provider whether they can provide a dynamic public IP, either as an add-on feature or by upgrading to a higher tier of internet service (even though your provider doesn’t offer a fixed/static public IP, they might still offer a dynamic public IP).
    • If your internet service must use CGNAT, but other musicians you’d like to connect with have public IPs, ask them to use custom ports.

    Thank you,
    David Liao
