Couldn’t establish connection while abroad, Local/remote network status: unknown/NAT

  • Thanks for your question.

“Local / remote network status: Unknown / NAT” means that the router on the other end (in the United States) supports the peer-to-peer connectivity FarPlay requires, but there’s a problem on your end.

To fix this problem, ask the internet provider you’re using in South America for a public IP address (some internet providers offer this feature for a small additional monthly fee). If the internet provider doesn’t let you get a public IP address, ask the remote musicians in the United States you’re trying to connect to to use custom ports. (Based on the links you copied, I understand you might have already tried these suggestions — would be grateful to know).

    Thank you,

    Hey David,

My colleagues tried the port forwarding (from your comment “ask the remote musicians in the United States you’re trying to connect to to use custom ports.”), but to no avail, we still got the same error message.

I haven’t tried asking the internet provider here for a public IP, I’ll have to try this as a next step, I thought there was a way around this, I tried using a VPN as well but that also didn’t work.

    Hi,

    Thank you for your update.

Sorry port forwarding at your colleague’s end didn’t work. This can happen if the network on your end (your internet provider or in your home) is very restrictive.

Sorry VPN didn’t work. We don’t recommend VPN (even if you can connect over VPN, it tends to cause very poor video quality and often also high latency).

Interested to know how it goes with getting a public IP from the internet provider.

Have you been testing using the same computer(s) you’ve used FarPlay on at home?

    Thank you,
    David Liao
