Webcam Not Operational
-
I have 3 webcams on my system, one in the MacBook Pro laptop, one in my external Apple Display and a USB connected webcam which I wish to use. All of them show up in the selection list but when I select the USB connected webcam, three white dots show up on a black background but no picture.
THe display webcam is very old, I would like the new USB connected webcam to be used.
I use it all the time in other applications, e.g. Zoom.
Thanks for your help.
PS the app is great for playing music with my friends.

Dear Colin,
Happy to hear the app is great for playing music with friends.
Is it just your USB-connected camera that gets stuck on the three white dots? (Do the laptop and external display webcams work in FarPlay?) If so, could you try the following?
- Make sure to quit all other apps that can use webcams.
- Check whether your USB-connected webcam’s manufacturer provides software that lets you adjust webcam access.
-
Run FarPlay from the Terminal:
- In the Applications folder, Control+Click FarPlay. Select “Show Package Contents.”
- Double-click “Contents” and then “MacOS.”
- Double-click the FarPlay executable.
- Even if this doesn’t solve your problem, we’d love to provide additional suggestions using a copy of the terminal output. Note: Terminal output shows session IDs. IP addresses and usernames might also appear in the terminal output. If you prefer, email your terminal output to us privately at support@farplay.io.

Thank you,
David LiaoGood news, everyone. The solution for Colin’s USB-connected webcam was to use a higher video resolution. To do this, click FarPlay’s Video menu and choose Video Preferences. Use the Your max resolution (width in pixels): pull-down menu to select 720 or greater. For illustrations, see our instructions for adjusting video preferences.
(We’ve updated our FAQ & Troubleshooting Guide accordingly).
Many thanks to Colin for his terminal output and working with Anton to find this solution.
Thank you,
