Ethernet and Router

  • Dear Fred,

Thank you for your post. Please select a length of Ethernet cable that reaches comfortably from where you’d like to play your cello to your router. Running an Ethernet cable to a different room is perfectly fine (I do this myself) because Ethernet cables can be up to 300 feet long without a problem — here’s a 300-foot example.

There’s no need to drill holes in walls. You can disconnect and roll the cable up to put it away between lessons. I personally keep my cable connected. If you prefer to keep the cable off the floor, use 3M Command loops.

Please feel free to personalize and send the template message on our teaching-tips page to your students to help them get started. Additionally, monthly support sessions are a great place for students to get started. Monthly support sessions are free to subscribers (like you, thank you) and students of “FarPlay For Teachers” subscribers.

    Thank you,
    David Liao
