I tried to use the Devices > Headphones: menu to select my external headphones, but there’s no listing for External Headphones.

If you’re using a Windows PC, and you’ve plugged your headphones directly into a 3.5-mm jack on your PC, the Devices > Headphones: selection you want might be something like ‘Headphone (Realtek(R) Audio)’ or ‘Speakers (Realtek(R) Audio).’ If you’ve plugged your headphones into an audio interface, you should look for the name of the interface (your audio interface might be listed twice—please choose the listing, if available, in the ASIO devices category).
