    Thank you for your detailed description. In case length going from the basement to “one floor up” is a concern, it’s good to know that Ethernet cables can be 300 feet (100 m) long without signal problems.

    Yes, plugging an Ethernet cable from your Mac into your basement extension might work. When a primary router (that receives the internet signal where the signal first enters the home) and an extension router are connected by Ethernet, plugging into the extension router sometimes works (depends on the model of the extension router — I’ve seen both good and bad).

    Go ahead and test FarPlay with an Ethernet cable connecting your Mac to your basement extension router. You can test for free (FarPlay’s free mode, the mode the FarPlay app is in by default when first installed, let’s you create as many 1:1 sessions up to 45 minutes in length as you like).

    Interested to know whether this works well. If it doesn’t, I’d be happy to troubleshoot the connection.
